More and more homes in the $1 million plus price range are going into forclosure.
Up until the 80's, the political parties in the country were not nearly so partisan. Not all members of a party voted with their party. In the past, congresspeople actually had their own minds. Not so today. Party line votes are the standard. And it's why it's so difficult to get anything ...
Elizabeth Warren (born 1949) is an American attorney, law professor, a champion of the middle class and hated by the big banks. I can't think of a better person to be the "watchdog" for the American consumer. During the 2008-9 financial crisis, Warren was the chair of the Congressional Oversight ...
Unemployment benefits are set by states; but the average benefit is about $309 a week. The GOP, which has been busy filibustering the extension of unemployment benefits, would have you believe that this $300 a week encourages folks not to work. WHAT?? Are they crazy? $309 a week? And then the GOP ...
According to the Internal revenue Service, the Nation’s top 400 taxpayers made more than $263 million on average in 2006, but paid income taxes at the lowest rate in the 15 years in which these data have been reported. In constant dollars, the average income of the top 400 taxpayers nearly quadrupled since 1992. Source: A New ...
Fannie Mae announced on Wednesday that borrowers who have the ability to pay their loans, but decide to walk away instead -- most likely because the loan is worth more than the house -- will be blacklisted from getting another Fannie-backed loan for seven years. What’s more, the ...
October 2002 Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. “Los Angeles is surrounded by valleys, but there’s only one Valley…”
Hush Money, by Peter Israel.
I was reading a traveler’s guide book from 1940 called “Know Your Los Angeles” by Bert Van Tuyle and found recommendations for some long-gone Valley restaurants. Before the freeways, Ventura Boulevard was part of the coast route through California, U.S. highway 101. Many of these places probably served highway motorists.

Health Care Reform
Believe it or not — we’re still talking about Health Care Reform because it is actually part of our economic crisis. A big part.
Overall, health care is consuming an ever increasing amount of our Nation’s resources: in 1970, health care expenditures were 7 percent of GDP; now, it’s 16 percent; and at this rate will hit nearly 20 percent by 2017.
I know no one wants to talk about health care [...]

Unemployment benefits are set by states; but the average benefit is about $309 a week.
The GOP, which has been busy filibustering the extension of unemployment benefits, would have you believe that this $300 a week encourages folks not to work.
WHAT?? Are they crazy? $309 a week?
And then the GOP has another idea. They’re convinced that the unemployed are drug users; Orin Hatch suggested the unemployed be tested for drugs [...]

“I look at the potential of this place; it’s a great piece of real estate,” says Wafi Amin, an official with the Afghan Finance Ministry in charge of privatization. “This is definitely a fixer-upper. It needs a little water, it needs grass. You have to make it green again and bring in trees. But once you do that, then everything else is cosmetic.”
Bunkers here, are the real deal. Goats were [...]

The 14th Amendment was passed after the Civil War to ensure that states could not make one set of laws for one group of Americans (like African-Americans) and another set of laws for another groups of Americans (whites).

Restaurant Reviews
What can I say? If this restaurant was across the street from the Mediterranean, I would be in absolute heaven.
I arrived for lunch and ordered the 1/2 sandwich & 1/2 salad special for $9.99. The Bresaola sandwich, made with just right amount of bresaola, fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, crisp salad, and ummm warm flat bread — was delicious.
The staff at this restaurant is so friendly, the food prepared in an [...]

I’m heading to Aberdeen, North Carolina at the end of the month, to visit my dad. He’s 97 and just recently moved from his assisted living facility, into a nursing home.
He loved his assisted living facility; but was tired of going to rehab and decided for himself it was time to go to a nursing home.
He likes the fact that he shares his room with another guy. My dad [...]
